[SOLVED]memory leak in aswmon2.sys?

Whilst I don't have the memory leak tools to check it in the way that others have done, only the task manager data on usage and I'm not seeing anything overly different to normal, running out of memory and no errors as mentioned by others.

The memory leaks described above appear in the kernel memory pool, which is not visible in task manager!

You have to use at least Process Explorer's "System Information". There it shows as "Kernel Memory".

Whilst that is true, but the consuming of your memory resulting in memory errors is a very rough and ready indication if you have the problem.

I have received some information on this:
By all accounts this is only present in win2k/winXP and I'm told the bug is fixed (and relates to rename operations). Now I don't know if that fix, means an internal program build awaiting release, I have asked that and awaiting confirmation.

Like I said before with v7.0.1451 Kernel memory grow to 400 000 ko , now no more than 85 000 ko (1 day opened with v7.0.1426) . (Win xp INTEL PIV hypethreading)

On the other hand , for my 2nd Pc (win xp AMD Athlon) , no trouble anymore with new update . It confirm it's not a general problem.

For the future, you can backup/export your settings and restore later, avastUI, Settings, Maintenance, Settings Backup.

Seems if some of those who wish to run systems 24/7 are the ones experiencing this problem.

XP Pro SP3 Avast! 7.0.1451 2GB RAM no problems seen so far, but then again only run system when actually using it.

Great thread!  Great diagnostics.  Should be a standard part of the beta testing process, it is likely those who have lesser memory (256-512 MB) might display this issue sooner, rather than later.

Well not really, given what was said about the bug being related to rename operations, so those with a high number of these rename operations (no idea exactly what that may entail, P2P, Torrents, etc.) would see this in a much shorter time frame.

It is the rename operations, so a torrent program could cause this issue?  Care to explain (You do not have to)?

If so, this is why only some users have this issue?

It isn't something I use P2P, but Multiple small parts of a big file may well (I don't know) if that would somehow incur rename operations in the way avast would have to scan the multiple parts.

I upgraded to 7.0.1451 on three computers. The one with Windows 7 has been running fine, but the ones with XP SP3 have been experiencing problems.

After awhile my computer slows down to a crawl and then I get an error whenever I try to open something. In the event viewer these are listed as Event 26 and say "Application popup: taskmgr.exe - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d). Click on OK to terminate the application" or "Bad Image... is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette". Other things also happen like the letters on the Start button disappearing, labels on the top of windows disappearing or turning black, and the shut down screen is changed. After a reboot things go back to normal until the problem happens again (usually in a few hours).

The event viewer will sometimes also show SidebySide errors (Event 59) at the same time these problems are happening. They say different things but for example one says "Resolve partial assembly for Microsoft.Windows.Common.Controls. Reference error message: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service."

These errors seem to be triggered when copying/moving a lot of files or browsing the internet w/ a few resource intensive tabs.

These problems started happening immediately after getting the new upgrade in Avast.

Well, that's when it shows. On my machine, there seems to be a fixed pool of 356M (sic!) paged kernel pool and it filled up slowly with 7.0.1451.
My machine is running 24/7, it's a kind of family server.

Resolved? Not really. I downgraded to 7.0.1426. That helped.

Unfortunately, with this problem, it is no indication. My regular memory use did not go up.
It was only after I googled the Event ID 2020 problems, that I found hints to the kernel pool and methods to analyze it (see the three links in http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100359.msg801837#msg801837).

I don't know why but each time I want to do backup after uninstall , it was not possible , I have 3 backup files for v7.0.1426 on this PC but import error "impossible to move file to an other disk"

They told me here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100247.msg802509#msg802509, that this is a known problem.
It's related to your TMP-directory being on a different drive than your Avast!-installation

But they also said in will be fixed in 7.0.1451

Glad I've found this thread, having the same problems on my XP/SP3 system
W7/32bit & W7/64bit system are fine.

My XP system runs continuously, I use it as a FTP server and a few other things.
After around 4 hours of running things start failing with "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" errors and program files not found.

I'll go back to the previous version and await a fix.

I wonder if they have not tested the new version on XP. The bug is so obvious, and has nothing to do with pc's that are on 24/7.
The pc becomes insane rather fast, an is completely useless within an hour or two.
