@ Epster (and others in this thread),

Did you originally do a regular (default) install of Avast or a Custom install?

When you did your original install, did you uncheck the Chrome install box, which is automatically checked by default?  You need to carefully read what you are installing no matter what software it is.

If you upgrade, these same installation features will follow along with it.  So if you do not want Chrome installed ever, you can either uninstall it now, or....uninstall Avast and do a clean CUSTOM install and uncheck install Chrome...and read what you are installing before you click anything.  Remember to reboot after the install.

I am Avast Free user from many years. And my original installation is definitely without Chrome.

I suppose Google pay to you to promote their browser. I do not want it. Who wants it may simply download it from Google.

So, stop pushing this junkie software to me, please!  >:(

Simply decline (uncheck the boxes) the request to install it and continue to enjoy avast! Free.  :)

This might be of guidance.

Just letting you know.  I received the automatic upgrade today and after a reboot I did see the dialog box appear with the options to uncheck the installation of Chrome.  Unfortunately the dialog disappeared in about 1 and a half seconds and the upgrade started installing itself automatically.  I did not have enough time to deselect the optional install.

It is not limited to Avast install.  Every single day, I get prompted by Avast on first boot to install Chrome.  I don't need that hassle.  One of these times, I might accidentally forget to uncheck the install boxes and Avast will go ahead and install.

Is there a way to get Avast to just SHUT UP instead of badgering me each day?

Hi bob3160,

But one things has to be clear from the onset: "Avast doesn’t install Chrome without user permission!".
Best is to go to custom install method, actually that is best for any program you intall,

Hello, I have a (silly?) question for the devs.

Both the issue with the dialogue box disappearing in about two seconds and the other issue where the dialogue box is slightly different (it's just the same except there are no check boxes for Chrome.) as described here:  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100608.msg804411#msg804411

could they be somehow related to those registry keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\No Chrome Offer Until]
"AVAST Software"=dword:0133054d

Thanks in advance

Yesterday morning I turned my computer on and then went for breakfast. When I came back Chrome had magically appeared and installed while I was eating my breakfast! It wasn't there when I turned the computer off the night before.

I have been always very careful with Avast to untick the install Google Chrome box when installing/updating Avast, do I don't know how it happened.

I looked in the Windows control panel "programs and Features" and when searching by date, the latest 3 programs showing were "Google Chrome" and "Sony PC Companion" and "Avast! Free Antivirus" which had all been installed that morning while I was eating my breakfast.

It was easy to fix, to uninstall Chrome. and thankfully the Chrome uninstalled doesn't leave your system broken like it used to a few months back.

I can see Avast need to make some money with the tie up to Google Chrome. Personally I would prefer to pay for a cheaper product then they wouldn't need the advertising or promotional links.

It's bad enough that we have to deal with Avast popping up every month with it's
"Hello! Avast here, look how super I am. I stopped this many viruses and I reviewed this many web sites.
Come see more. I am So Great."
Dear Avast!
The best antivirus is the one that shuts up and stays quiet until something bad is found.
Really, we, the PC users hate the fact that we have to install antivirus software in the first place.
What makes you think we really give a damn about how great you are.
I left AVG for the same reasons. Constantly in my face.
You are becoming like a car alarm constantly going off in a parking garage.
Eventually, I'm going to tear your wires out.
Now you have the gall to AUTOMATICALLY install software that you have gotten into bed with!
Oh, everyone does it.
Oh, if you don't want it, just un-check it!
OK, next time you go to the supermarket, I'm just going to randomly dump product in your shopping cart.
You don't want to buy the gefilte fish? That is OK, just remember to pull it out of your cart before checkout.
Otherwise, it will come home with you and you'll have to take it back, and get a refund.
It's really not that hard.
