Can I revert to v7.0.1426?
« on: July 01, 2012, 12:47:24 AM »
Last evening I updated Avast. Since that my pc will only work for a while ( half an hour, or so), then the programs start to freeze or fail to start. After a reboot, everything works again.
I am of course not a 100% sure this is caused by the new Avast version, but I have never had this kind of trouble before, and it started 1/2 an hour after I updated Avast (and rebooted).
I would therefore like to revert to the previous official version (7.0.1426 I think).
Does anyone know if this is possible, and how to do it?
WinXP

Yes it is possible to revert, using an old copy from somewhere like filehippo.

But the better option is to get 7.0.1451 working first.
I would try a clean reinstall of avast 7.0.1451:
- Download the latest version of avast, 7.0.1451 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 5.x, 6.0.x and 7.0.x).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 6.x if previously installed and then for 7.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

No point in getting 1451 to work because the problem is a memory leak:

@ Shaun985,

Then go to filehippo and download the file for 7.0.1426 if you don't still have it and save it to your HDD.  Uninstall ALL previous versions of Avast using the Avast Uninstaller Tool http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and reboot after each uninstall of each product and version you had on this machine.  Then install the version you want and reboot.  Update the definitions and register your product.

The glitches with 7.0.1451 should be fixed some time next week.

@ Shaun985,

Then go to filehippo and download the file for 7.0.1426

Hi all,

The only problem is that when you try to download 1426 from the relevant page on FileHippo, the downloaded file is actually 1451. (Basic tip: look at the file size before downloading from other achives. 1426 is around 71MB and 81MB for 1451.)

Thanks Asyn.  ;)
Tip:  I always keep my download files on a flash drive just in case I ever need them again.  ;D

Thanks! :) I found it somewhere else but it's always good to have a proper link
(I don't understand why the Avast! website doesn't have some sort of a "legacy" page. It would make things easier for end users)

So do I usually. But it's the very first time I've had any kind of issue with Avast! since Avast! 4

Yeah. Now I see all the reply's, after I have wasted time on reinstalling the buggy new version. As you can guess, it didn't work. Installing v7.0.1426 from oldapps.com have given me back a working PC, although the installation was a pain, and left me with a non-bootable PC. I guess the installer in v7.0.1426 is buggy.
It would be very handy if Avast would make an undo update function.

No problem here with 7.0.1451 on Vista,

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
