OSX Mountain Lion 10.8
« on: July 26, 2012, 08:59:52 AM »
I installed the new version of Mac operating system and encountered the following problem when I tried to re-install Avast.
"... can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" "Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."
How do I install Avast for Mac and bypass this block.

Hi,

Where have you downloaded the avast dmg from? We've release a minor program update two days ago to solve this issue. Maybe the update doesn't make it to your download side, yet.

Those messages are a result of the Gatekeeper feature which is new in the OSX Mountain Lion. You'll see it every time you will install an application which hasn't been signed with an Apple-approved certificate.

You can download the most recent version of avast! for Mac here: http://download.ff.avast.com/mac/avast_free_antivirus_mac_setup.dmg

Regards,
Jan

Thank you for the info!
I had to change the GateKeeper to allow software to be installed from all sources. After that it worked.
I changed the GateKeeper to the more secure level again.
Now everything works fine.
