WinXP+Outlook Issues with Avast 7.0.1451 and 7.0.1456, Outlook 2007 hangs "Loading Profile".  System Restore back to pre-1451 version fixes problem temporarily, but since update is automatic issue returns almost immediately.

I have reverted back to Avast 6.0.1367 with automatic virus definition updates.  System is much faster, I can use outlook, and I don't have to spend 2 hours every 3 days booting to safe mode just to system restore back to a version that resembles a tested build.  Sort your issues out BEFORE release please.

Avast 7 is a major disappointment to someone that has been a major advocate since Avast 4 ....

@cknight725 - are there any other parts of avast than Outlook plugin that caused you problems? We are working on the fixes for the Outlook plugin for next update.
Quality is also a feature.

Apparently there are -- the Outlook Add-In was disabled with no change whatsoever to the behavior ...

I agree with the last statement, two machines hung after update, I had to boot into Safe Mode to uninstall. Tried reverting to older V6 version but the installer package insists on downloading V7. For the time being, and much against my will, I've replaced Avast with MSE and am recommending friends do the same if they get the 'desktop won't load' problem. Such a shame after relying on (and recommending) Avast for so long. Please sort it out, I want a reliable working copy back!

Only 4 out of 13 A/V were able to defend against Microsoft vulnerabilities: Avast, Kaspersky, McAfee and Trend Micro!

MSE ain't one of them, so your going backwards.   http://www.bcs.org/content/conWebDoc/47482

Most avast! issues are leftovers, so if you upgraded 7 over 6, then do aswclear to solve those issues.

Well darn, I guess I'm going to be waiting longer to test if the issue I mentioned in another thread is cleared up, thanks for the info.

Been there, done that, as instructed. AFAIK there are no leftovers left. New Avast 7 install still hangs my pc. So unless I can get Avast 6 back, or the Avast 7 which worked for several weeks before the problems started, then I'm not in the Avast game.

Later : OK, I've now managed a clean install of the BETA v7.0.1465 and - so far, touch wood etc - it's running ok. Restarted pc twice with no problems, also now getting only single pop-up of virus definition update. It's good to have Avast back ... but I'm keeping MSE on the laptop until this install has been running with no hitches for a few days (weeks?).

For your sake, I hope MSE isn't your downfall since only one AV should be installed on a computer.

Not that daft. Avast on desktop, MSE on laptop.

These were Avast, Kaspersky, McAfee and Trend Micro, all of which successfully blocked attacks delivered over HTTP and HTTPS.

Bob Walder, chief research officer at NSS Labs, explained that many anti-virus suites protect against HTTP-based attacks, but not HTTPS-based attacks.

This is because their products are often configured with default out-of-the-box settings, he explained.
