Outlook 2007 addin/avast free v.7.0.1456
« on: July 10, 2012, 05:48:06 PM »
There have been problems with the avast outlook addin for a few recent updates.  Currently the addin cannot be loaded in outlook 2007.  Going to the trust center and enabling the addin doesn't work.  It just says it is unloaded and disabled when you open trust center again.

Running Win7 64b sp1

Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks but this issue appears different.  I am actually glad the antispam toolbar is removed because I didn't want it, but the avast addin which was listed seperately from the avast antispam still doesn't load. The addin is there but doesn't load (is disabled and cannot be enabled) whereas the antispam addin is no longer listed.

I would like to enable the avast addin again.

" If you still want to have your addin enabled, please keep enabled only avast! Addin and avast! Antispam disabled in outlook add-ins options. The best way to do it is to remove avast and make a clear install of AV 7.0.1456 using setup files and then enable addin in Outlook."

Ok so this line above from thread is not possible.  What else am I missing?

Sorry, I don't use Outlook. Therefore I'm not sure, if the free version even has an addin..? ???

Thanks...maybe someone else will chime in.  Just glad I am not missing something obvious in the thread you mentioned.

Based on my last post it should still work to load the addin and I have done the recommended clean install to eliminate prior install problems with no luck.

Found this in the eventvwr.
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\asOutExt64.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.ATL,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Check out the link here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100692.0

The earlier versions of Avast 7 had two add-ins. One was the anti spam add-in. The latest version 1456 combines both add-ins into one listing in the trust centre of Outlook 2007.

I have disabled all Avast Outlook Add-ins. It appears that the email messages are still being scanned though. To disable the add-ins, I disabled the Avast self protection function (Avast > Settings > Troubleshooting) and then I rebooted Windows 7 into safe mode (pressing F8 key during boot) and then I logged on as the administrator and opened Outlook (safe mode) and removed the add-in from the trust centre. I then navigated to the (C:) Program Files > Avast Software > Avast folder and deleted the two .dll files called "AsOutExt.dll" and "AsOutExt64.dll"

I then rebooted in normal mode and re-enabled the Avast self protection function. This stopped the error messages from appearing, but appears not to have disabled the mail scanning. As the free version of Avast 7 Anti-virus doesn't include the Anti-spam feature, I suspect that they should not include that plugin for Outlook with it. Outlook has it's own anti-spam feature. I have always had mine set to "High" sensitivity. maybe the Avast anti-spam plugin conflicts with the native Outlook anti-spam feature.

Blowers...thanks for the response.  Unfortunately, my incoming mail isn't scanned possibly because it is an IMAP account whereas it was scanned when the addin was enabled and working.

While disabling it as you did resolves the error messages, it doesn't solve the loss of functionality and inability to enable the addin.  I just would like to get the same functionality before the software break around 7.0.12xx or so.

Hopefully someone from avast will give an update on progress.
