I've had this issue for a few days (Win7) and here's what I do: I keep a pair of headphones plugged in (but not on my head) and then I don't hear the double dings + voice 2x.

Actually, I do this a lot for other noises from my computer that I don't need to hear :)

Anyhoo, hope it gets fixed soon, minor annoyance though it is.

I have five (4 DELLs, 1 Lenovo) W7 64-bit PCs in the house......they all now do this.
Machines are clean and all up to date.....some less than month old.....others no older than 6 months.

It has nothing to do with your computers but something in the avast! program which needs to and will eventually be addressed.

I tested the virus alert sound by using eicar test file thing it only sounded once.. to me it seems like it is just the update sound causing it.. Which got me thinking if it starts to bother which it won't... I could disable the update sound easily..

open regedit, look in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.scroll down to Avast and see if you have duplicate Avast and then avast1 DON'T DO ANYTHING IN HERE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING !!
just check and see if it's doubled in there and then exit out. and report if it's doubled.

Avast folks, your silence is deafening! A few words of assurance for your loyal users would be most welcome I'm sure.

Strangely enough, I wasn't experiencing this with 1456..until a few days ago, when I started getting double update notifications on EVERY PC  I install avast on...win xp or 7, 32 or 64 bit.

I have two PCs with Win7 64bits and both have doubled audio notifications. This issue started a few days ago. It must happen because the new definitions, the program Avast update was installed before this happen, and worked well.

That looks ok to me...I have seen it before..this is what i am looking at...So without any word from avast! team...dont just assume and presume that its replicating..

There are duplicates on my win7 netbook and my XP system and it this is the only OS I get this double update sound, but in all honesty, I really don't notice it that much.

But if you check other areas in this HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry area, avast aren't the only duplicate keys with this .1 suffix. But this isn't the avast key but other avast related keys avast.addin.1, avast.AsOutExt.1
