  • Man is virus.
As already mentioned if the double announcement bothers you, turn it off as explained in:
avast! Quiet protection
I'm sorry, but that is not a (real) solution to the problem in this topic... (Not that I care all that much. I always uncheck the voiceover and I hardly notice the double sound.)

Well its a soloution to anyone who doesn't want to hear the double update until avast release a fix.

Yep it is high time this was fixed 'PROMPTO', just how long is this going to go on for..... can we have any clue here?

Obviously Avast seems to be more concerned with updates rather than clogging folks registry up with double entries.

I did think it would have been fixed after a the last few updates, but updates keep sailing by and sailing by and no fix!

The language may be offensive but some very valid points are made. It should be a strong heads up when customers are that frustrated with a program to angrily use such expletives that just maybe something is seriously wrong!??

In my own case I simply want a simple to use security system that I can depend on and that is totally effective - THAT'S IT! That's what Avast advertises itself as.

I just went through all kinds of hassles with another program, trying to get it to work, or trying in vain to get good technical support after I paid good money for it: TOTAL FAILURE! That failure included getting whacked with a virus.

Now I have continual, daily problems with Avast and the only suggestions I got are that it's because of Spybot, so I removed that. Problems came back next update and continue every single day, all day. Now I'm told I need to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of Avast, again implying it's something on my end, can't possibly be a total screwup by Avast!.

Can anybody at Avast imagine that I'm not real happy with this b/s? If I used the language of my true feelings I'd be banned from here! NOT HAPPY! Many, many other folks are NOT HAPPY with the current product. It's gone on for over a month now, same garbage, different day, no change.

Either a program works, or it doesn't. Either a program is compatible, or it isn't. In my case the program DOESN'T WORK and ISN'T COMPATIBLE! What part of that is good? What part of that makes me feel confident that the rest of the guts of Avast is actually working right, protecting me? Or have I just been fortunate to not be attacked by a drive by virus???

Very well put. With a Security program such as I have (AIS) I would like to set it and forget it but when it starts acting strange like it has been and there is not a definitive answer from the Avast Folks, I start to wonder if I will renew my license. Not only should there have been an official response from Avast, the problem should have been fixed by now. When I go to uninstall a program such as Firefox Aurora and I get a warning from Avast that it may be malware, it makes me wonder? After all Avast let me install it OK! Now this double notification problem, my God the entire program could be messed up.

My win 7 machine and my wife's win 7 machine have been doing this the last couple of days. pretty funny if you ask me and I'm not going to loose sleep over it.

Here's what I got, two separate identical update voices within a couple seconds apart and only one pop up letting me know avast just updated.

Another attempt of turning this into a mountain  which it certainly is NOT .
It hasn't been 2 weeks and even if it was, so what. If you don't like the extra announcement,
shut the announcements off.
Your protection isn't degraded but keeps getting better which each update even if the double announcement is bothering you.
Wear some earmuffs....  ;D

So it is getting better twice as fast as we are getting notified twice is that your reasoning Bob? You most of us unlike yourself, have a life outside of this Forum and Avast. I bought Avast AIS because I was told it was the best. I also used Avast when it had a normal Icon and not this silly yellow one that they now are using. How do you know what the real problem is? It is identifying itself as malware as well as this double notification stuff.
If this is so easy and notr a major issue why has it not been fixed yet? Every day that goes on my respect and trust of this product diminishes. Yes I can turn off the sound update so I don't hear it. That is like when a car dealer tells you to just raise the volume on your radio so you don't hear the rattles.
Well Avast is rattling and as each day passes without a fix, more users are moving on to products that are dependable. Below is what I am getting from Avast.

Dear Bob,

Do You Work at Avast ???
Are you the appointed thread moderator ???

I understand that you wish to do well but as I was about to pay for the full version, having uninstalled AVG a month ago, I am certainly not going to shell out perfect cash for broken software.

I am a System Administrator for a medium size corporation and I tend to know when things are worth it or if they are not.
As a user of this software, I wish to have prompt service when there is a bug.

I do not want to switch the alert sound off because I wish to hear the audio cue that an update just happened and that it did go well. Shutting up the software is actually patching up the problem and not fixing it. Doing the ostrich is not a solution. I do not work in this way.

And YES it HAS been 2 WEEKS as this thread was created on Friday the 13th... 2 weeks ago.

So as users of the Free version that might become paying customers, I am sure a lot of us are basing our decision on service... it does not bode well.

Thank you but no thanks.

@ MotherDawg,
The answer to both of your questions is NO.  :)
I don't know what you mean by "do well"
I will agree with you that a word from Avast on this topic would have prevented a lot of posts.
I still think we're making a mountain out of a small bug. Something that doesn't impair your computers safety.
If it was security related, I would already have been SHOUTING.
Admittedly, I use the free version  and your decision to upgrade should be based on the convenience of having
all of your protection in one neat package or, gathering various applications and stitching them together to give you layered protection.
