No there is no security issue involved and it is just a minor software flaw, that will go with a coming program update, see the official word from avast here:
 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=102154.msg817644#msg817644
@GRX88, to change the icon: Click "Appearance" in the left column to change how the Avast icon and user interface is displayed on your computer. You can choose to animate the Avast icon and select optional translucent effects for the user interface.
Use the "Sounds" selection to change Avast sounds or to disable Avast sounds completely.
Click "Update" to configure update options. You can choose Avast to automatically update, ask when a new update is available, or only allow manual updates,

It's alright saying wear earmuffs.... that ain't the solution and you know it BOB! That doesn't solve the bloated registry does it? What other things are happening that we don't know about that hasn't reach the surface YET??

It's a poor do when something like this happens and AVAST does not acknowledge the fact - why haven't they? All this hassle could easily have been curtailed somewhat if this was acknowledged, folks would then be more sympathetic to the situation don't you think!

I'm beginning to think there is more to this that meets the eye, I refuse point blank to think this is just a glitch... this ain't no glitch BOB be sure of that, more like carelessness, rush job was it? I bet they are dashing all over the place now developing a clean up program.

A glitch crying out loud come off it... someones made a 'dogs dinner' of things I'd say!

Hi Davy,

It is going to be solved with the coming update, as an avast tean member stated here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=102154.msg817644#msg817644

A few entries don't make a bloated registry. No registry is ever without unused and useless entries. That's the nature of the registry.
Almost all uninstalls result in a registry that's filled with obsolete remains.
None of this has anything to do with keeping your system safe and will most likely be addresses according to it's importance.
Am I happy that there hasn't been any real intervention by Avast in this forum ? The answer is NO.
This still doesn't change the fact that this glitch isn't endangering your computer and will eventually be corrected.
Since the Olympics have started, this certainly isn't important.  :)

There is no bloated registry and for the vast majority of users, there are no major issues in any of the Avast versions. The double sounding is a very minor annoyance as it only sounds twice a day at most. I leave the voice on as well and it doesn't really bother me. This thing about Avast detecting itself as malware is extremely rare and in my opinion questionable at best.

When Bob said you were getting double the protection with every update, he didn't mean it was because of the alert sounding twice. You get better protection with every update even if there is no notification at all.

NOW HEAR THIS !
I don't want any Free Loading Avast Evangelists, with 40-80 thousand posts, to answer on anything here as none of you actually work for Avast Software S.R.O... and seriously, who wants an answer from lifeless zombies that know nothing and have no power to have anything changed... you can only forward issues.
On the other hand, I welcome posts from normal users that do have possible solutions.

Yesterday evening I had the database version 120727-0. This morning when I started my computer, I got the same double sound and the green pop-up saying that my Avast was updated to version 120727-0. The info in the main window says it is version 120728-0. So, two bugs have met: double sound with one pop-up and wrong version number in the pop-up.

Vista SP2 x86

PS: One Russian user reported yesterday that he got version 120727-1 with double sound and the big pop-up and the ad "You are using the basic protection". I thought Avast has already ceased to distribute such ads.
May the FOSS be with you!

For me it's working. If the programmers don't answer it is most probably that they can't reproduce bobo1's problem.
I've certainly heard that double audio message when the Green Popup pops up after a Definitions Update.

I've been getting the double audio message now for about 2 weeks and it is NOT JUST XP, I AM USING WINDOWS 7.

Regarding my XP machine, for the past 2 weeks or more I am no longer getting the message for Avast to get the Virus Definitions Update (I have to resort to just the message and do the update at my convenience because it is a 56K RAM machine and updates bring all other activity to very nearly a halt)

Well mine has changed, for the last three auto updates my XP pro has ceased the double update audio, it now gives a Ding, Ding, then the pop-up notice and single audio notification.

I still haven't seen/heard any double notice on my win7 netbook.

On my WIN7 netbook it is not a "double notice" (only one visual notice) but there is a double audio message saying the update is finished.

On my XP I have it set to give me a message when an update is ready to be installed so that I can decide when, I no longer get these messages at all on my XP.

Only because you're doing MANUAL updates. Otherwise, you would receive the audio announcement followed by the video announcement and a second audio announcement.
