;) I have gone into 'Settings' and turned off the voice and set the popup for updates to 5 sec from the default of 20.  I have had no double voice notification today at all!

I have the same settings (no voiceover, show popup 5 seconds) and yes, there's no double voice, but you probably still get a double "ding". Mine goes: ding... ding and popup. As I've said, it doesn't bother me all that much. (At least Fx doesn't freeze anymore when I open a site with Flash content.)

No longer had the double sound for a few days but this am when it updated to 120802-0 heard it sound twice again. I know it is not critical but why is this taking so long to fix??

Because where waiting for the program update that will include the fix.

Because it has to be done (and yes, Im assuming here) with a program update, and they arent going to get in a hurry to release a program update just for this. It is pretty sad that it takes weeks to fix such a small issue. Their priority should be to fix ANY issue, no matter how big or small.... as fast as they can. Otherwise (when youre talking about a defensive software like this) whats the use of the product?

As the double update sound is not a problem that affects the running of avast it is not something that would be regarded as an emergency and requires a program release just to fix this one issue as there are far more important things requiring attention and when those are solved then the new update will be released.

What has the double sounding got to do with avasts defences ? (nothing ) in future please dont troll posts looking for places to complain about things you know nothing about >:(

I am having this problem too since mid or late June about a week after I installed the new paid version of Avast! Windows XP Home Edition. I thought maybe I might have installed the program twice but just checked and I did not. I did have a glitch when I downloaded the program but like 2 years ago I got that cleared up. I buy the package for 3 computers - cheaper than changing it back to one computer. I have only downloaded it to one computer.

i am having this same problem, plus i just NOW learned how to shut off the spooky automated voice - i was a bit desperate, as the extra notice was really motivating my parrot.  yes, he is learning the phrase "your Advast database has been updated" and all the ding sounds that go with the notice.  unless you have a parrot, you probably don't know how awful this is, it means it gets repeated and repeated all day long.  *sigh*  other than being too vocal, this has been a good virus program for me.

Hi folks,

Is it just me, or is the time period between the two announcements increasing? When this thing first started on my computer, the first announcement was almost immediately followed by the second. Now, it takes about 25-30 seconds.

Wow, 17 pages on this subject.  Pretty neat.  She has your ear, eh?  Might that be useful?

Anyway, my latest hearing of the announcement was about the fourth style since this all started and it was sort of a half statement cut short and then immediately she did the full statement.  All very quick and not at all a bother to my ears.

In fact, none of the styles have been a bother to my ears.  As I wrote earlier, it's a pleasant voice I don't mind.

But the fact seems to be that she is listened to and now I get back to the usefulness of that point.

Wonder what people would like to hear added, if it could be done?

Might vote would be for, "Let's have a little more peace in the world."

I'm sorry, but the part about the parrot is hilarious although I'm sure it's not for you.  ;)
