Problem with avast! Addin using MS Vista/Outlook 2007
« on: July 14, 2012, 01:04:44 PM »
Hello,

I've upgraded avast! Free to version 7.0.1456 on my laptop using Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 SP3.
Whenever I start Outlook, I now get an error message telling me that 'Windows encountered a serious problem with the avast!Addin. Disable or keep it Enabled'. To get rid of this annoying message I disabled it.
Under the Addin section in Outlook asOutExt.dll is now listed as 'Disabled', so does avastAntispam. However I cannot enable those anymore, because 'only an Administrator account can enable that'. I do not understand this, since I have an administrator account in Vista.
I'm not sure now: Thought avast! still tells me that 'my system is fully protected', I don't know if my incoming and outgoing e-mails are really guarded?
What is to do know? Can we expect an avast! update to fix this, or are there better solutions?
Thanks
