Sure, it can... Depends on your activity.
Generally, when the computer is a baby of 2 weeks, you must fed him with installations (programs), configurations, etc. etc.
At this time, the baby throw away a lot of things and let a lot of things behind him  ;D  ;D

Anyway, System Restore folder size can be controled and won't grow up without a limit  :)

Thanks Technical. I know nothing at all about system restore, as I always had it turned off  :) What do you suggest I do, I'm ok at deleting temp internet files, cookies etc, but stuck on this one ???

Wish they would give you a Windows manual when you buy a pc :(

I never use system restore, and you'd have to turn it off if you were ever unlucky enough to get any malware as Windows makes it impossible for avast! (and any other anti-virus) to alter the files in the restore folder.

Far better to use the new dvd writer to do incremental back-ups of your data!   :)  :)  :)

I know nothing at all about system restore

System Restore is a feature that promisses much more that can do.
I never could get a realy efficient restoration.
I tried, I tried, choose another date/time for restoration...
All that I get is that I need to choose another point and boot again.

Norton GoBack is an efficient restoration utility.
For Bob it works great on XP SP2.
For me not  :'(
Anyway, it's a complex program with high driver interation and, most of times for some users, buggy.
Right now, the only solution: backup!  :)

System Restore just keeps growing and growing, by default I think that it allocates itself up to a maximum of 12% of your HDD space (that can be a lot on an 80GB HDD). So in theory it can grow up to that maximum when it then gets rid of the oldest restore points. Unless you manually restrict this percentage and do regular disk clean-up to keep it managable.

When I first tumbled to this and checked the size of System Volume Information was over 1/2 GB.

DavidR, may I ask how you accesed that information? I seem to be able to only get to the tools where I can do the disk clean up/defrag--no advanced option presents itself.
Thank you...I'm still learning.

Welcome to the forum.
I may not be David  but maybe I can help. ;D
Just follow these steps:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

Hope that helps.

Thank you, Bob, for the welcome!
I tried that and all that came up was a small box that compressed files  ???
Nothing about more options...
Sorry for such a basic question!

Here are the pictures of the "small box" that first opens when you click on Disk Cleanup:

Here you have to select the drive you want to clean up. Once you select your drive, you'll get the following:

This operation usually takes a while. Once it's completed, you'll get the following :

Here you make the selections of the items you want to delete (clean-up)
If you choose More Options, you'll get the following:

From here you can choose other options for cleaning such as:
uninstalling Windows Components you don't use, uninstalling programs you no longer use and, deleating all except your last System Restore point.
If you use System Restore and your system is working well, that option is highly recommended.
Hopefully this will make things a little clearer for you.

Another way to get there quickly, right click on the Drive or Partition in windows Explorer and select Properties... then follow the above.
