Fading spinning avast icon

Ive noticed the active (spinning) Avast icon is becoming faded (white dots over the top 3/4 of ball). Is the avast free edition timing out? Is this a virus or does it mean the system is only partially installed. Have been using Avast for about 2 months this time, approx. 3 months last time. It's been fine (no spots) till about 3 days ago.I've recently added "ghost", tracker blocker. Any ideas or answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Have you or windows updated your display adapter driver in the last few days? I have had windows install a faulty display driver which caused a problem similar to this.

No I haven't. I checked my drivers and didn't see any update.
