Personally I don't feel it necessary to reboot in between multiple use for the uninstall utility for different versions of avast that were installed, e.g. 5, 6, 7. Having once gone through this routine, should you need to do it again you shouldn't have to run it for previously installed versions only the current one.

I would just cycle through them in turn for the versions you had previously installed and reboot into normal mode once you have done that.

These are the instructions I have given for years without anyone coming back to say that didn't work. I have absolutely no idea where this multiple boot issue crept in.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Yeah I believe I had only essential softwares at startup. But if there is an application / method which would advice to weed out unnecessary services or applications , kindly suggest..

First issue would be to deal with your obviously corrupted Avast install.  Your image definitely shows something with Avast is messed up.  Then, deal with your Firefox/Flash issue.

NoScript 2.4.9 and AdBlock Plus 2.1.2 will also be out soon on the AMO site for update in Firefox 14.0.1.

@ Cyberpunk,

I don't think all your problems has to do with FF and Flash.  Avast is putting out a new release/fix next week or the following to help resolves some of the issues that have been brought up (they do read the forum and things we bring to their attention).

That's good to read. I was getting a bit frustrated to what appeared to me to be a lack of interest from "official" staff. As for what is to blame, it's still not clear to me. Uninstalling Online Free and reinstalling avast! also solved the problem. I'm just hoping this new avast! build is not going to cause more problems. (Will create an image of my C: drive before updating.)

As mentioned earlier, keep your other software, browser, and plug-in's , OA, Flash, etc. (do a Secunia CSI scan to see if you need to update anything) updated.  If you feel more comfortable staying with Avast v.1426 for now until the new release, then go ahead so things work on your machine.

I'm a big fan of Secunia, so I have PSI installed. Version 2.x because 3.x doesn't have an advanced mode. But everything is up to date here and avast! .1456 is not causing any more problems.

1. If you need the download file for v.1426 Free:

Tnx, but I still have the  avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe on my hdd. I have a folder with all kinds of software that I also keep on a flash drive. avast! is one those programs.

Anyway, this is what I'm working with now:

avast! Free Antivirus 7.0.1456
Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1
Online Armor Free 5.5.0.1616
Mozilla Firefox 14.0.1 - NoScript 2.4.9 (AdBlock Plus 2.1.2)
Shockwave Flash Plugin 11.3.300.265
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg
added ProtectedMode=0
