This time the total time was 1:06
And YES I have the MS anti spyware program active.
I deactivated it and tried another update but got the exact same results.

Surely this must be software specific, otherwise this thread would be pages long since the last def's update.  I mean a particular programme conflict, otherwise all of us would be posting the same problem.

Sorry the off-post, how is it going?
Does this application worth?

Being an unpaid beta tester for M$ doesn't work for me............... and be prepared to have to pay for it shortly ........along with the M$ anti-virus solution.

There are enough free programs available that I don't have to pay for it. ;D MS Antivirus???? what's that?
I only use avast! ;D ;D

Bob, I see no advantage over SpyBot (and TeaTimer) + SpywareBlaster + Ad-aware...
So I even will test it  ;D

That would be why they bought out GeCad and Pelican software companies then.

Be prepared to pay for that beta anti spyware programme by summer time this year ....... and find it bundled with "longhorn" along with the anti-virus next year.  While they are still fighting the E.U. lawsuit about bundled software and their fine here.  ;)

Quick edit

Sorry ......way off topic .......... stops the M$ bashing  ::)  ::)  ::)

Technical
Teatimer catches changes as they happen which is what this program from MS issupposed to do.
The other programs all clean-up after things have already gotton onto your computer.

But, that's all off-topic.
There is still a delay in the system of quite a few users since the last update which needs to be addressed. Please :)

colin32,

my advise: Immediatly visit the MS update site and get ALL security updates/patches, including SP2.
Your system has many leaks and is very vulnarable to infections, hackers and such. Besides that, your system (once infected) is also a security risk to ALL other systems in the world.

To all,

Possible solution here,,
I also had the exact same +1 minute delay problem following the latest build update (no problem before that).
I'm running WinXP Home, P4 3.2GB, Sygate Firewall, Broadband connection (no proxy).
I tried Control Panel-->Add-Remove Programs-->Avast-->Repair,, several times,, but no luck.

**However**, while trying this several times, I happened to check the proxy settings and found that it was set to "Automatically detect settings".
Before the program update, it had always been set to "Direct connection to internet", but apparently the update changes this (proxy) setting without the user knowing.
After I checkmarked the box "Direct connection to internet", I'm back to the good ol' Avast updates (download time 2 s, and total time 4 sec).
Hope this is the solution. Let us know.

Acco  :)
Whadayamean it's broke,,,   let me make sure!

XP-Pro SP3 - P4 3.2 Ghz - 2 GB ram - Avast Free Home 2015.10.2.2218 - Firefox 38.0.1 - Thunderbird 31.6.0 - Imap Gmail - SpywareBlaster 5 - SuperAntiSpyware - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium

...complete success!

Yes, that was it Acco - thanks very much!

Had a hard time finding the setting.  For anyone else trying this, go to Program Settings - Update (Basic) - Details - Proxy.
