Scan process running at 197 %
« on: July 25, 2012, 08:37:26 AM »
Hello community,

today I installed "avast! Free Antivirus for Mac" on my Mac with C2D@2.4GHz, 4 GB RAM, running OSX 10.6.8. I manually scanned my home folder containing ~ 10 GB data (~ 8.000 objects). Right after the scan started, I recognized the process com.avast.MacAvast.MAD running continuously with nearly 100 % utilisation of the CPU. Only three minutes later the process runs at 197 % and left only 64 MB of free RAM. Finally I had to kill the process and reboot the computer.
Does anyone have similar experiences?

Cheers
Nils

Hallo,
it's pretty normal that while on-demand scanning (if this was the case) the CPU utilisation is high - but, when the scan is done, the load should drop back to zero.

Could you paste the output of the top utility (or make a screenshot of System Monitor) here? This will revela more.

Regards,
pc

Hm, it will be the normal way as you say, but the problem is while the manual scan is processing my computer runs out of RAM which will slow down working.
