Script shield won't work
« on: July 27, 2012, 03:59:33 PM »
After I've updated to the latest version of avast (following the recommended procedure - using uninstall tool in safe mode) I've noticed that Script shield seems to be inactive while I'm surfing the Internet with either Firefox 14.0.1 or Opera 12. Strangely, it works fine with IE 7.

P.S. I'm using XP SP2.

His OS is in his Signature -- Win7.

Try an Avast Repair:
XP Users:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.

Vista & Win7 Users:
-   Control Panel
-   Programs & Features
-   Uninstall a Program > Select Avast Antivirus
-   Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair
-   Click Next and follow.
-   Reboot.

If this doesn't work, since you upgraded, I would recommend an uninstall and clean install:

1. Save a copy of Avast and save it to your HDD:
Version 7.0.1456:
Avast Free AV:                http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
Avast Pro AV :                 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
Avast Internet Security:   http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD.
3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
4. Go into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. Uninstall ALL previous versions and products of Avast you had on this machine.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro, or AIS online.
9. Update the Avast definitions.

Let us know how this goes for you.  Thank you.

SafeSurf, neither repairing nor uninstalling has worked - ScriptShield still doesn't work with FF or Opera, but does with IE7.

Can you please check for malware with Avast Quick scan and Malarebytes (MBAM) http://www.malwarebytes.org/ - download Free > UPDATE > Quick Scan.  Cut and past your MBAM log to your next post.  Thank you.

@ SafeSurf

I did a quck and full scans of Disc C with Avast and it found no threats. However, MBAM did:

Frankly, I dnn't think that these may be the cause of the problem since after MBAM had deleted them and I had repaired avast again nothing changed.
