Boot scan crippled my computer

So I was working with the not quite latest update to the free version of Avast, when after a quick scan it offered to do a boot scan.  I figured why not, it had been a while since I had restarted my machine anyway.  Short version: Upon restarting I can see my lights come on and hear the beep associated with startup.  My screen remains blank and is no longer transmitting anything at all.  I have switched HDMI cables, switched monitors, inserted a boot disc... Everything short of kicking it.  This computer is fairly new and has never even crashed before this.  I have restarted it many times without issue, the only variable that has changed is the Avast boot scan.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit
6 GB Ram
i5 processors
Nvidia GTX 555

OK lets go in outside of windows.  We will need to create a CD and additionally use a USB drive

 Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

• Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
  
• Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.
  
• Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
• Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn  to burn the file to CD
  
• Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

• As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads 
• Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop

Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy

• Insert the USB with FRST64
• Locate the flash drive with FRST64 and double click
• The tool will start to run.

• When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
• Press Scan button.
  
• It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

I attempted this anyway just to be sure, but like I said, I'm not getting any video output at all.  Not even the blinky cursor associated with the black screen issue.  It's as if all video function from my computer is disabled.

To me then that would suggest either the Video card has failed or the Monitor has gone

Have you checked your monitor cable for connection and security
