Does Avast! pick up malicious code from gadgets?

Windows sidebar gadgets off to the right side that microsoft added in Vista/7 or at least those are the only ones that I know.

Well recently Microsoft have removed support for gadgets, as A) they say they are vulnerable and B) they are concentrating on apps for windows 8 and are actively trying to get the gadget designers to start working on win8 gadgets.
