Updates are being announce twice.
« on: August 03, 2012, 11:38:50 PM »
Hello Avast people!

Hey, since a couple (or maybe a little more) weeks, I am noticing that the Lady voice announcing the Avast updates does it twice (one right after the other one). I was talking with a friend in Spain and I heard the Lady voice twice too in his PC. What's up with that? Once is enough (for antivirus at least).

Cheers,

It is a known problem which has been acknowledged by avast and should be resolved in the next program update.
May the FOSS be with you!

When will the program another version of Avast?
When it's ready, there's no given release date.

Why is it so hard for someone from Avast team to answer this question to their users?
Is someone working on the program at all? Are they still having issues?
Something wrong is obviously happening with Avast in the last 3 months with continuing issues (Script shield not working with Chrome since ver.18, double sounding update notification, manual program update requires restart when no update is available, avast disabling wireless network card in XP SP3 etc etc).
In the good old times, whenever issue would be confirmed from Avast team, it would be addressed immediately in subsequent 2,3 or 4 smaller release upgrades. Now we wait for months and upgrading to newly released versions only to see same issues happening and new ones arising. I'm a paying customer to Avast IS and am so disappointed in Avast that I moved to Comodo IS and my PC is running like charm and being protected at the same time. Keep it going like it is now and your user base will go down with it.

As already mentioned it's ready when it's ready, if they push out the update tomorrow and there is a problem everyone starts complaining that they rushed it, so let them be so that there able to work on any final issues before releasing and hopefully it'll be a smooth transition.

craigb, have you paid for your Avast product or are you using the free version?
Whenever you pay for something do you expect to have fully operational product or not?
Well I did pay and I expect nothing less than fully operational product. If patience is a virtue than Avast shouldn't charge anything for the Avast Internet Security until they fix all the issues so users could use it in a way it was designed to function.

What did you pay for? You paid for the security. Did double announcement break it? No. Did double announcement make your AIS non-operational? No again.
May the FOSS be with you!

AIS is disabling my wireless network card. Can't use internet at all. Once I uninstall AIS using avast removal utility  everything works as it should. But the things that you're mentioning ... Can AIS be considered a fully operational product with all this issues surrounding it? - No!

I am sincerely sorry that you are experiencing problems using Avast. But I find it difficult, or rather impossible, to imagine a sophisticated computer program that would work without problems on all computers in all conditions. Problems can arise at any time and for any reason.

If this were a car, it can be sent for repairing to a car workshop, where specialists will be able to test it, find and solve the problem in a relatively short time. But as for the program it is not possible, so developers should attempt to identify the problem by circumstantial evidence, not being able to access directly your system. They have to explore many options to find a solution. At the same time, they should check whether the solution work on other computers and doesn't interfere with something else. All this may take a very long time and that's why craigb asked you to keep patience.
May the FOSS be with you!

I'm glad this issue has been recognized, and I eagerly await it's resolution. I am relieved to hear that the security part of AIS is considered to be intact and functioning. I shall be as patient with this issue for at least as long as my current paid subscription is active, which is for many months yet. Avast! has been my favoured AV for years, tho I still miss the computerized voice (Stephen Hawking-like), and wouldn't mind hearing that twice, lol. 8)

My only known avast! issue of late has been the double verbal announcement (I only get a single pop-up announcement); otherwise everything seems to be working fine? [I have another computer/internet issue, but I cannot confirm it has anything to do with avast!, so I shall address that from other angles before I reexamine avast! functionality/compatibility. I highly doubt avast! has anything to do with my other issue.]  :-X

If I do return to this forum for help with that issue, I will start another thread. It didn't seem necessary to start another thread on this issue seeing as the advice given here applies to me too. Patience is something I am happy to apply, especially if that's all it takes. If only all fixes were so easy.  ;)

I wish all at the avast! forums and the avast! team fine tidings. See you next update! ~Nom

I paid for AIS quite awhile back and it has been an 'effective', reliable and fully function Internet Security Program for me since day ONE! ;D
I'm just saying. :-\ :)

I was glad to see this topic, since that's what I came in to report, also. I will very happily wait for the next program update, as the double announcement is causing no problems. It's just been a little strange--I think the lady became twins! ;D
