SUGGESTION - Remove the Avast! Gadget
« on: August 10, 2012, 09:25:09 PM »
I think it's better for Avast!, as a security company, to remove the Avast! Gadget from all installers (FREE/PRO/IS). Probably you read that Microsoft confirmed that the gadgets are vulnerable, and suggested users to stop using them. Here is the link for the advisory: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2719662

Also, Avast! is ready for Windows 8, which doesn't use gadgets anymore.

So, Avast! team, does it worth providing the gadget for Windows 7 only, and considering that every user should disable the gadget system?

I always thought these widgets were useless for antiviruses. I mean i like the stock Windows clock, RAM/CPU usage and weather widget that come with Win7, but widget for AV? It's just pointless waste of space and resources. I think they've done it just because others did it as well (Kaspersky etc).

I consider it a simple and useless toy which is not suitable for a respectable company and antivirus as Avast! . I guess it doesn't ocupy much space in the installer, but removing a few extra KB or MB would be a wise decision, considering the recent growth of the setup.

I use the AIDA64 gadget to show a detailed view of my OC'ed workstation, from temperatures to voltages to fan activity. Love it!

But yeah, the Avast gadget is kinda useless ...

I like the gadget, i have occasionally been getting an error where avast needs attention, and this flags it for me.

but i can see why some might not.  its easy to close though.  and it always stayed closed until i turned it back on in the gadget panel.
