This is another case of the very annoying Avast! Antivirus, stupid FALSE POSITIVES. This type of fase positives scare people who don't now much about Computers and they end messing up their PCs, because Avast! is detecting Files that are 5 years old or older as viruses when they are not.  >:(

fwcsetup.exe
fwinfo.exe
fwupdate.exe

These executables are legitimate part of LG Firmware Autoupdate, The False Positives happened yesterday. This Files have been in my PC for more than 5 years, I have a LG DVD drive.

Yesterday, I checked them Online with Virustotal and the results are as follow:

fwcsetup.exe -- was detected by 2 engines between 44 as Win32:Malware-gen, by Avast and GData.

fwinfo.exe -- was detected by 2 engines between 44 as Win32:Malware-gen, by Avast and GData.

fwupdate.exe -- was detected by 2 engines between 44 as Win32:Malware-gen, by Avast and GData, and was also detected by 1 engine between 44 as TROJ_GEN.F47V0812, by TrendMicro-House Call.

Yesterday, I sent these files to Avast Labs. and told them to be False Positives, but with the new Virus Definitions of today morning, Avast! Antivirus still detect them as malware.

Avast please, fix-it!

Thanks,
Avastin.

you can also report from avast chest....or was that how you send them?

if you have the files in avast chest?   right click the file in chest and upload as FP
if not in chest you can add manually (it will only be a copy of the file)

File is safe and stable, report a FP to avast as our friend, Pondus, says. See: http://www.backgroundtask.eu/Systeemtaken/taakinfo/12214/fwupdate.exe/
and http://www.runscanner.net/lib/fwupdate.exe.html

Well, this is frustrating Avast! still flags these 3 Files as malware. >:(

How long does it take to Avast Labs. to correct this False Positives???

Is there any representative from Avast looking at this Forum?
