Question about excluding some files from Full Scan on avast
« on: August 14, 2012, 02:42:13 PM »
Hi there, sorry if this is the incorrect spot to put this. But I wasn't sure where to post my quesiton.
Anyway here it is, you see This thing keeps coming up each time I turn my pc on and click internet here and then saying avast has blocked this trojan horse. I forget the file name of it but I ll post it here when it happens again.

Anyway this has made me want to do a full comp scan to see maybe if there is something trying to get in my pc.

But I usually don't do full scans because the avast blocks whatever usually. and the reason I don't do full time comp scan is because it takes to long for me because I have a lot of jpg screenshot files. I am a gamer and I like to take screenshots of in game related stuff. (don't ask why please lol)

Anyway my question is how can I exclude/ make it so the avast doesn't scan the screenshots. I have about 280 folders in 1 big folder named screenshotfolder. each folder is named screenshot1, 2 3 etc up to 280. They contain about 200-300 screenshots each. (This is over years btw lol)

Anyway How can I block it so my avast does not scan those and it scans my other parts of my computer? Because as I type this to you it is currently still scanning its on folder #1 150 atm lol. Taking so long.

Anyways if anyone knows please post it here. Thank you again.

Regards, Avast332

see screenshot #12    http://www.softpedia.com/progScreenshots/Avast-Home-Edition-Screenshot-6474.html

if you dont want to scan it all....... then why do a full scan  ::)

i only run full if anything is detected in quick. a weekly quick scan is fine .... it will detect all malware running active
or you activat the screensaver scan, then it will scan everytime you leave the computer .....it also remeber where it stopped and will start from that place again....unless you have restarted the computer

ty Pondus. I now know how to do it :)

Ok so as long as I do quick scan I;ll be ok? And if anything is picked up in there then I should do full scan right?

Quick scan will check pretty much everything else in pc though right? I excluded my screenshots and am restarting scan now in quick scan

With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.

I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. If for some reason my system wasn't on, no big deal I will catch up on the next scheduled scan. The .jpg files are at risk of infection/exploitation so would be scanned by the on-access scanner (by default) before being opened.

The Quick scan will be checking those files and areas most likely to be infected/targeted by malware.

Personally I don't necessarily think this is a problem, assuming that you have installed visicom_antiphishing ?
As this looks like avast detecting unencrypted signature/phishing sites database updates.
