Which Type Of Sites Are Suitable For Blacklisting
« on: August 14, 2012, 08:48:13 PM »
Hello, I have written an article about How to Report Dangerous Sites. It can be found on this page:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-report-dangerous-websites.htm

I am trying to make sure that I have assigned these services to the correct categories. Thus, I would like to get some more information.

What type of dangerous sites can be reported to Avast and what is done with those reported sites? Does Avast accept malicious sites, phishing sites, sites promoting hate, etc...? What type of sites can be reported?

Thank you.

Essentially it is only infected/malicious sites. Avast doesn't specifically categorise phishing sites, but for the most part they would also be considered infected/malicious.

Essentially it is only infected/malicious sites. Avast doesn't specifically categorise phishing sites, but for the most part they would also be considered infected/malicious.
So does this mean that users could submit malware infected sites, or phishing sites, to Avast and they would be blocked? I'm just trying to clarify because you are making it sound like phishing sites would be blocked, but they would not be flagged as phishing sites.

Thus, essentially, Avast does block phishing sites. Is that correct?

Thanks.

Well in the first instance it would have to be if there is no detection by avast on a known infected site.

As I said there is no specific detection for phishing sites, but many such phishing site could also be malicious so there would be a degree of cross over. Avast has its own known malicious sites list, used by the network shield, there are many ways that it collects this data. One of them the web shield detections and community IQ after a period of time consistent web shield detections would result in the site being added to the malicious sites list.

So essentially Avast is really only meant to block malicious sites, but some phishing sites may be blocked as well. Is that essentially correct?

Thanks.

Forget the word phishing, if avast alerts it is because the site is either infected or on its malicious sites list.

Some phishing sites might be malicious or infected others could be benign. There is I guess a possibility a phishing site could end up on the malicious sites lists (if reported as a malicious site), though as an avast user I don't how that is done, but if it did get added to the malicious sites list it would be blocked as a malicious site not a phishing site (as far as I'm aware).
