A couple odd problems with 4.5 Home
« on: January 13, 2005, 03:53:02 AM »
In the last couple days I have been getting popups from the task tray with Avast error messages.  I click on it for info like it states and nothing happens.  I have also tried several times over the last couple days to update Avast myself, with no luck.  The vps listed on the user interface is the 12/31/04 which came on the avast install.  However, when I have selected to update it on my own, after about 1 minute I will sometimes get a summary window with this info:

Information about current update:
Total time: 1:21

- Vps: Already up to date
  (current version 0502-2)

Server: download5.avast.com (66.98.196.85)
Downloaded files: 3 (0.03 KB)
Download time: 2 s

This seems to say it's up to date, but the user interface doesn't reflect that.

The other problem is that when I click the x to close avast, it takes about 20 seconds for the window to respond and actually close.

Any advice on either of these two issues?

Thanks!  That fixed the slow update time, which was also causing the window to stay open.

The user interface is still showing that I have the older vps rather than reflecting the update???  Perhaps this will correct itself?

Swindmill,

What operating system and specs are you running?

If you are running XP, do you do your manual updates while logged on as an administrator or as a limited user?
I had similar problems with the User Interface and taskbar ball-->about avast! info screen updating the vps date info, when I tried updating while logged on as a limited user.

Try this,
Log on as administrator (no other user accounts running).
Go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> Avast --> Repair (be sure you are connected to the internet beforehand).
Reboot.
Report your results back.

This said, assuming you have WinXP.  ;)
