If so is avast alerting, etc. or is it just not running ?

Kindle for PC runs just fine with avast! AIS 7 so it seems like it should run just fine with the other versions of avast!7.   I really like Kindle and Kindle for PC.  I probably should use them more often given that number of Kindle books I have downloaded ;D

Thanks for replying!

I'm not getting any notifications or alerts and it seems to be downloading just fine, but it just won't run, and the kindle people have no answers.  It was working fine until Avast was updated a few weeks ago, and then it suddenly stopped working.  I was hoping I'd find a fix here - or at least the hope of a fix in the future.

I'm glad it is still working for you, Nesivos!

Thanks, again.

What do you mean when you write "not working".  Not loading, not syncing, not downloading ebooks etc?

I do know that was a  recent bad; i.e. bugging update of Kindle.  I am using 1.10.1 (40262).  This is I believer from July.  If you can't get Kindle to load then check the version number of the installer file by mousing over it (slowly).   You could have installed the buggy version.

It installs, but doesn't start like it is supposed to when it is finished.  It comes up in the Windows Task Manager "processes" for a split second, and then disappears.  I can't seem to get the version number, even though I'm moving the mouse slowly.

I uninstalled and deregistered. I've reinstalled and uninstalled so many times over the past month, I can't count them anymore, in multiple browsers (thinking maybe that was the problem.)  Yes, it started in July, but since they said they don't know when the next update is coming out, I try to reinstall every few days.

When you find the installer file right click your mouse while the cursor is over the file.  Click on Properties.  Then click on "Details"   Post back the version number and time stamp.

Are using any other anti-malware program like Malwarebyes?

What software did you use to uninstall Kindle?

Which version of Windows are you using?

If you are familiar with the Windows Event log then open the Control Panel type "event" in the search and click on "View Event Log".  See if there is an error message in I believe it would be the Applications Event Log

All of them are version 1.10 except for one that was 1.4.1... maybe I should try reinstalling that one! But I think that's the one that stopped working in July.

I have Malwarebytes on the computer and run it, but it isn't on all the time.

I used Kindle's uninstall program and did it from the start menu/uninstall programs as well

Windows XP

There are quite a few application events today, but I don't understand what they mean.  A bunch of "Office Software Protection Platform Service", one "HHCTRL", one "BBSvc", and a few "CVHSVC"

I just found something on an MS forum.  It said there must be an expiration date on the program and to reset the clock back a year and see if that works.  It didn't work with the later version, but when I did it with the earlier, 1.4.1 version - it now works!  And it even downloaded all my books automatically, which kindle support told me to delete. So, I'll leave v.1.4.1 on there and change the clock anytime I want to use it.  Much better than not being able to use it at all.

Thanks so much for all your help, Nesivos!!!
