i don't know where i can get individual fixits? I only have one set-up file - I got it from here:

And the error is the one that I get - see the picture in post 7.

also - I have no idea how to look up which version of dot net that I have? If I have an old one, how to I update to a newer one?

BTW - would that also fix the missing volume bars from the screen?
AND - now I am noticing something weird is going on with the dates... Chrome is showing in my download history that FSS ComboFix and the tools which I downloaded from you - as downloaded on Sept 26TH 2012, which hasn't happened yet! The taskbar clock time is accurate - it shows the correct time as today - Sept 11TH 2012.  Very weird and now got me worried even...

the individual fixit didn't work - see attached screen capture [it seems the same problem as before... from post 7]

I believe that the fixits require dotnet 3.0 sp1

The remaining option left is to try and install V4.0 if that fails we will have to remove all frameworks and then reinstall

all previous problems remain - still cannot install fixit it... [same error messages, even after reboot]
windows update is updating dot net v 4.0 right now... but somehow I don't think that's gonna change anything...

Next option will be to uninstall all dotnet versions, clean it up and then re-install V4.0 only

Form the above link download dotnet cleanup zip
Extract all files and run the programme

Once done you will have no net framework on the computer
Re-install v4.0 and let me know the result

ok, no pop-up boxes on startup now, but boot [once it gets into windows] is sorta slow...
also, I was able to finally run that individual fix-it that you sent me earlier, but it doesn't fix the no volume bars on the screen issue, and I still cannot run the full Microsoft Fix It set-up thing. I get the attached error dialog box [same as from before].
