Mail-shield problem?
« on: August 20, 2012, 12:36:46 PM »
Hello,
The Kernel_task is rapidly increased if I switch the mail-shield to ON, and therefore all operations slow down... :'(
Is there anyone who have the same situation here?

avast! Mac Free Version 7.0(37431)
iMac 2.4GHz Core2Duo(4GB)
Mac OS X 10.6.8

Never seen such issue. Are there any interesting messages in the system log (/var/log/system.log)? Is this permanent or only if there is an active IMAP/POP3 connection? If it happens only during a connection, what server are you connecting to and what mail client do you use?

Thank you for your response! Due to your advice, I found a lot of errors. (Error connecting to AV daemon: connect(): Connection refused)
And it may be caused by my e-mail settings...   :(
I am using Apple Mail with plural accounts (IMAP/POP3). So, I will check them one by one.

Thank you so much again!

This looks like the scan engine (daemon) is broken. Are there any launchd messages in the system log about being unable to start the daemon?

Hi again,
Is this what you mentioned? >> com.apple.launchd[1] (com.avast.account[16330]): Exited with exit code: 2

Should I re-install avast anyway?

No. com.avast.account is a tool for managing the avast! account which does not run permanent. In other words, there is no problem with it.
Only com.avast.MacAvast.MAD related messages are relevant.

Should I re-install avast anyway?

You can try it, but a better way would be to find what went wrong. Also, a reinstall may not solve the issue.

Well, I never found any other errors which you mentioned.
So, I see this situation for a while as is.

Thanks anyway!
