I often see a large number ov Avast connections using Process Hacker. Is it normal?

Yes. The way web and email filtering in Avast works is that we use "proxies" - i.e. reroute all the traffic to our own process to inspect it, and then send it to the Internet on behalf of the original application.

Hence, for each connection your web browser and mail client makes, Avast also makes a connection.
