Our network of servers is based mostly in Texas, USA and is hosted by several providers. Currently we have 14 servers (you can check the list in the file servers.def in avast4\setup directory) which all serve for the web content, downloads and iAVS updates. One of them hosts also this forum (forum.avast.com). Our webs have about 70 000 unique visitors and 300 000 pageviews per day right now.

But Eddy that has nothing to do with the Forum time used.
Look at the JPG attached. My current time is 6:40AM  Eastern time is 8:40 AM and the displayed Forum time is 12:40PM.

All the times on our servers are synchronized with our HQ server, and all of them are using CET (central european time) - we're GMT+1. This is mostly done for our convenience, because main admin (me) is really, really sloppy when it comes to computing all those time zone differences  8) I never know if I should add or subtract an hour when there is a switch between CET and CEST. My wife is always ROFL.

The servers are physically located in Texas though.

It is even more complicated  ;)
The forum software does not know anything about time zones and daylight savings, it has just two values - the main difference between computer time and forum main time and user based difference between forum main time and his/her time.

The computer time itself reflects the CET during winter (5 months) and CEST during summer (7 months). The SMF main difference is set to -2 - so it is at GMT during summer but Azores islands (??) during winter!

The users (like myself) in Central Europe should have +2 in their profile - and the time will be correct whole year around. It is similar for most users in North America and some in Asia. Unfortunately for users which have different daylight switching days, no daylight time at all (or even the opposite daylight change in southern hemisphere!) the time of the messages could change during the year. They can adjust their offset manually but this is far from ideal solution.

There is no really correct solution in SMF for this rather complicated problem - and if I will change the main time offset (to keep the time the same) most of our users will be out of sync and will be forced to do the same  ???

Hope this helps
Pavel

Pavel,
My time is your time. ;D I have no problems at it's still the same as it was under the old forum.
