Greetings,

I just newly installed Avast!. When I attempt to open Microsoft Visual Basic 6, it begins to open under Avast! as a "suspicious" program, then my computer immediately reboots itself. After restart, Windows displays a message stating:
=====
You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused Windows to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your computer.
=====

If I disable Avast!, Visual Basic starts without problem.

I did a full scan after initial install. Avast! found and removed a few "java: agent" problems such as "AIY" and others, but I should now be clean.

Avast! version number is 7.0.1456.
OS is Windows XP.

I'm hoping someone has a solution for this. There are no pertinent "visual basic" + ""stop error" hits in the knowledge base with a search for those terms.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Google How to Find a Bad Device Driver.

Thanks for the responses.

Re: "What is OS?"

OS is Windows XP. It has Service Pack 3 installed and automatic updates.

If Avast! is disabled, VB6 runs without problem. So, the problem appears to be Avast!. Does that make sense? Or, am I missing something there?
