You mean the little box in the corner that says there is an Avast update?

This has been a part of Avast for a long time.  You will get one that says an update is available IF you have Avast set to manual update.

It occurs again when Avast is set to automatically download a program and/or VPS update.

Ok?

No the window that opens up when Windows is starting to show the desktop and says that  "We're glad that you're using our software. However have you ever considered acutally buying it?..."

Yes I considered buying it and also recommending it.

Just enter a key and it will be gone. Seems you now run the evaluation version.

If you comply to the license terms, you can get a key for the home version for free from the website.
Otherwise you have to purchase a license. (Can also be done through Avast's website).

Yes I upgraded to a new hard drive and had copied over the partitions but some how the registration was moved over.

Probably this is a anti-piracy protection as you copied your HDD.
If not, did you downgrade from Professional version to Home?
Did your trial period expired?

The problem may be caused by the recent trouble with year-2005 keys :(.
If you moved the files, you had the older version (having the problem there). Downloading the latest version and installing from scratch would be better to move avast! to another computer.
