Avast vs Kerio -- HELP
« on: September 03, 2003, 05:24:54 AM »
I recently installed the Kerio firewall and just about that same time my Avast auto updates stopped.  I am using Kerio 2.1.5.   I am guessing that there is something that needs to be configured to allow Avast through but I have to admit my ignorance.  I can update manually with no problem, but I miss that voice coming out of the clear blue telling me that my virus database is updated.
If someone knows how to configure my firewall, I would really appreciate the help.
Thank you a lot.

Thank you for replying.  I think maybe one of my oars is not in the water or something.  Since I'm not getting any messages whether to allow Avast to communicte,  how do I set it up to allow this?  Would it be best to try reinstalling Avast so the firewall will ask if it's OK?  It seems like there must be another way to tell the firewall to allow it. I'm not educated in the proceedure for doing this.  I'm guessing that it may have something to do with setting up a rule for the firewall but I don't know the correct syntax.   I'm hoping someone might know.
Thank you

I believe KPF normally asks you to create a rule whenever an uknown program attempts to access the Net. This is the default setting, I guess...

There are lots of people who use avast4 and KPF2.x sucessfully together. There are some interoperability issues with KPF4, though... See this thread for details: http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=888

 Hi,

here
http://www.beepworld.de/memberdateien/members51/who-cares/avastnkerio.gif
are my Kerio 2.1.5-Settings for Avast 4 on Win2000-SP4

- you have to adjust the path to the avast\setup-folder of course.
- you might want to allow only the IP-adresses given in the avast-faq, also
- put this rule "on top" in kerio so there can't be any contrary rules and enable logging for it

problem is: avast.setup exists imho only temporarily; you might want to create a dummy and allow this in kerio, then delete the dummy

--> kerio will warn about MD5-checksums changed next time avast tries to update: allow the change

- have you set kerio to "ask me first"  ?!? ;) ;)
