HEEELP! 0x00000005 error
« on: January 17, 2005, 11:43:55 PM »
Hi all,

For some reason whenever I am on the net and try to either update the virus registry or the program itself (manually or automatic) I get the above error logged in my log file.  It says GetNewerStampedFile:compatCopyFile failed
It also says Tried to download prod-av_pro.vpu but failed with error 0x00000005 error

My latest compilation date for my VPS file is: 07/01/2005
Build: Nov2004 (4.5.561)

Am I doing something wrong?  I have an active firewall but when I shut it down and try to update manually I still get the same error...even when I uninstall the firewall entirely, so it's definately not a firewall-based problem.

Help me obi-wan

A search of these forums for 0x00000005 will return many hits. This one may be the most relevant http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=9921.0 and this solution is about a proxy server setting.

Tried that potential solution before I posted my problem.  No luck.  Like I said in my above post I even removed the firewall completely and made sure I was directly connected in the settings.  Still doesn't connect and update!  :-[

Can you ping the download servers? (see avast FAQ to have a list of them)
Can you browse other sites?
What is your system date/time?
Are you using the Home or Trial version?
