I'm amazed that the article again mentions the possibility of a lawsuit against Microsoft over this false positive.
How many lawsuits have been filed agains BitDefender over false positives in their software?
I guess if this software was still owned by Giant, that subject never would have come up.

From BitDefenders point of view, I can imagine them thinking, the only thing that helps, is threatening with lawyers. Not that this will be of any use I guess...

Strange, I have BitDefender (free) installed as a second scanner and Microsoft Anti-Spyware did not detect it as spyware $:-\$

There's so many permutations involved with each system, and the software installed that it's interesting ; but annoying , to find that what works for one person doesn't always work for another. Maybe in 20 years computers will have evolved to a more 'standard' base , where you don't feel your chasing your tail in circles every couple of days. The bottom line I feel is designating a plan of what you want to do with your computer, and sticking to it. With so many 'yummy' toys being thown on the market almost daily, it's very tempting to try the ' latest ' thinking it's the best. Multitasking is a headache .

When I first used MS Anti Spyware program, it did find some files but lately it reports that none were found.

But if I run Adaware immediately after, like tonight, Adaware found 0 critical files and 21 negligible objects (MRU list). Not sure if this means MS SP isn't finding the negligible objects or if it just isn't programmed to find them maybe because they are negligible?

I do find that since using MS Anti Spyware (less than 2 mos ago), that Adaware isn't finding critical objects. Need to keep comparing more but I DO like the MS Anti Spyware program resident scan idea.

The MS software reports every webpage that has 'startpagina' in it as dangerous.
Another false positive by this crap.

It's a pretty good program, but almost every anti-spyware program I've used always has a few false positives - it's bound to happen. As protection increases, the possibility of a false positive also increases. Although, my problem with MS antispyware was that it slowed down the system horribly, and it seemed to crash a lot of applications the resident scanner was attempting to scan.

In ref to your question as to what is "startpagina". I looked in a search engine and it appears that this word (if you will) is indicitive of a URL in the Nederlands only. So, if that is the case it has nothing to do with anyone other than those people interested in going to an address that originates out of the Nederlands. If this is not correct information I am sure I will be corrected.

Can't offer much help from my end. Hope your friend has another browser they can use. After reading your link about the problem it sure does sound like more of this might happen.

Sounds like your friend needs to uninstall the MS Anti Spyware Program and then do a repair of her windows installation.

ALmost right Neal, it is also used in Belgium, Suriname and some overseas parts of The Netherlands.

Emma, reinstalling IE should solve it.
