Does the Avast! Endpoint Protection Suite Server have protection for its self? Or do you have to install a client on it or another antivirus to protect that server?

EPS/EPSP suites can be installed on the server OS. It does not matter if it will be managed by one of the avast! consoles (SOA-Small Office Administration console or EA - Enterprise Administration console) or you leave it unmanaged. More information can be found here: http://www.avast.com/enterprise

To clarify....  No the management console does not by itself include the scanner or shields to protect the server.  It is simply an interface to manage all of the other clients.  You can (and will want to) install any other AV or avast AV on the server to protect it.  I currently have Avast EndPoint clients for the entire network and then previously purchased copies of Avast File Server installed to protect the servers themselves.
