Wireless Router/Firewall
« on: January 19, 2005, 04:35:45 AM »
I'm going to install wireless network in my house. I am considering Linksys WRT54G...then claim it has sufficient firewall/security properties. My new laptop just has the windows xp firewall(aka. bend over Billy!)..Linksys says not to bother installing one on the computer..Any coments on their product and advice would be appreciated

Good security advise can only be given if I know the exact situation at your place, but I will give you a few tips to keep in mind.

- Security starts with the user(s).
- People/compnanies can claim/say a lot. Always check it yourself.
- Windows SP2 firewall only protects/checks inbound, not outbound.

I started a thread here a while ago about security. I suggest you use the search option to find it. I think you will find the things I said there usefull.

And here are two webistes that are also worth while reading:

http://www.nsa.gov/snac/

Good luck with installing/using the new system.
