Avast doesn't scan
« on: January 21, 2005, 07:18:03 PM »
Every time I try to scan, the scanning works fine, but once the scan is complete the logfile reports that every single file has been 'skipped due to scanner settings' or 'unable to scan: archive is protected by password'

How can I fix this???

ps. changing scan-mode (quickscan/ standard scan/ thorough scan) makes no difference.

What are you trying to scan (File/Folder/Partition/HDD)?
Can you give a few examples of the excluded files?

There can be many legitimate reasons why files can't be scanned, encrypted, password protected, etc.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Files protected by passwords, encripteds, not scanned, but not reprensentative a risk.
Its a files from databases of the antispywares, antivirus on-line, and others...

I doubt it. For quick and standard scan, many files are skipped indeed (but many files are also scanned, you just don't see them in the report). For thorough scan, however, there shouldn't be any skipped files ("because of scanner settings").
Of course, password-protected files cannot be scanned, but it's nothing you should be worried about.

Here's an example of the scan results, they are however in dutch.

For those who can't read it, after the filename it says:"File was skipped because of scanner settings"

D:\Mijn afbeeldingen\Luis Royo\Girl In Red.jpg [E] Het bestand werd overgeslagen omwille van scanner instellingen. (42016)
D:\Mijn afbeeldingen\Luis Royo\Gothic 18.jpg [E] Het bestand werd overgeslagen omwille van scanner instellingen. (42016)
D:\Mijn afbeeldingen\Luis Royo\Gothic Angel II.jpg [E] Het bestand werd overgeslagen omwille van scanner instellingen. (42016)

What is the problem about it?
It is not a result of "thorough scan", but rather of standard or quick one. In these modes, some file types are not scanned because they are not considered dangerous - that's the list of files you can see.
