I deleted norton months ago. I just basically want my avast to work. I have two months til my version is over

Maybe there are some leftovers from your old Norton installation that will be removed by this tool.
After that follow this instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Then install your downloaded avast installation file in normal mode.

I don't have norton period. theres nothing in my programs that even has norton. Hmmm.

The fact is you did have Norton so there will be leftovers that are probably conflicting with your avast starting up, please run the Norton removal tool http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ then reboot your system.

The latest avast can be downloaded and saved from here http://www.avast.com/en-us/download-software then download the avast removal tool and save http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility reboot into safe mode ( tap f8 while starting the system ) and run the avast removal tool that you saved for all versions of avast ever installed, once completed reboot your system back to normal and install the saved copy of avast.

I'm going to try the avast  removal tool next, but i know theres nothing in my computer or files that even has anything of avast. but i'll try it.
