I have a few complaints and suggestions about Avast's update.

I have a few complaints and suggestions about Avast's update.

Avast doesn't give any indication of it's automatic (background) updates.
Unable to see any progress, or stop Avast's background automatic updates.
Why isn't this background update activity shown in Avast?   :o

Manually updating Avast through it's Maintenance -> Update
Clicking either Update button, only shows a file name and a "progress" bar...
It would be very nice if Avast indicates each (as downloading) file's size here.   ;)

Need to let a user retry when the update download fails.   >:(
By Retry, I don't mean the current (bandwidth eating) restart from scratch.
(I bet it currently costs Alwil a fortune from the scratch-restarts alone.)

Basically, Avast's update section needs a real download manager.
Even FireFox can restart downloading halfway through a file...

About the "downloadable" manual update from Avast's website.
When I saw that was going to be 60+MB I canceled it.   :o
I figure the program is 90MB, so why is the update so massive?
What happened to the tiny definitions files???
Is Avast automatic update just blindly downloading all Defs files?
If so, then why?  Unlikely to find new variants of Creeper or Form.

Also, if I set my connection type in Avast to Dial-up...
Avast should not try to get out on the net as soon as I start a browser.
It causes a traffic jam for Firefox, Chrome, and/or Opera.
(Because they look for their updates then too...)
Perhaps a 2.5-10 minute delay, or wait for a 20-40 second lull in connections?
Or give the Dial-up users the option:  Auto, or  x number of minutes after connected.

With Dial-up, Avast should limit the number of it's update connections.
I'd suggest limiting the Avast\Setup\avast.setup to 1-2 active connection.
Or give the Dial-up users the option:  Auto, or x number of active connections for Avast updates.

I'm well aware that it could be asked who uses Dial-up anymore?
But these concerns will affect all other users, DSL/Cable/Fiber/Satellite/etc.
Resolving this issues would make Avast more streamline, and give the feel and appearance of working more efficiently and seamlessly.   ;D
(Not to mention saving Alwil a bundle on bandwidth and complaints...)
