Symantec Norton removal registry
« on: February 10, 2005, 11:19:50 PM »
Hi,  New here.

Several of the  Avast procedures are disabled because it says that I have Symantec or Norton running on my system.

I have not but did have at one time.

I have removed every registry entry having to do with Norton  or symantec that I can find and still, Avast will not function properly.

Any suggestions or perhaps a more thourough cleaner than regedit's find.

Thanks a a lot,  I do appreciate any help.

Merlin

How did you try to clean the registry?

Have you looked at this - Manual Removal NAV 2004

Also try running hijackthis and see if there is anything shown there - Download HijackThis.zip

Edit - If you could reduce the size of your avatar, we usually keep to 100x100 so the display looks the same.

Which version of NAV did you have? If it was 2003 and back, search the forum or Symantec's site for "rnav2003.exe". That will take care of it... If it is 2004, do as described above by DavidR.

Thanks for the info!  it is much appreciated!  Tried to clean the registry with  Hijackthis and  Regedit plus others.  It is almost as if the Norton entries were self replicating after rebooting.    Aaarrgg!
I had NORTON SYSTEMWORKS  2003 installed.  I now use open source or freeware.
I use HijackThis on a regular basis and it did not get it all.

I will try as you suggest!  Thanks again for the swift replies to my query.
