[Win 7 x64] Avastsvc.exe (?) causing BSOD repeatedly
« on: September 10, 2012, 04:00:18 PM »
I recently installed (fresh) Windows 7 x64 on my business desktop.  Since then every now and then i get a BSOD. At first i blamed an unstable driver from a door security system. But lazy as a was i didnt analyse the minidumps my system created.   Now i still receive the BSOD while the drivers are gone im getting tired of the BSOD so i checked the minidump and it tells me that Avastsvc.exe is the faulty program.

I am running the managed version from the enterprise

Current versions in mirror (and on my client):

avast! Endpoint Protection: 7.0.1455 (Jul 12, 2012)

Virus database: 120910-0 (Sep 10, 2012)

I checked only 1 minidump but i had several:
I uploaded the minidumps to the incoming directory the file starts with WPNOORDHOEK......zip  password is: Avast

I have reported it to the moderators.

However, why don't you upload the dump file on some file hosting, so we can take a look at it as well?

Thanks Avosec for reporting

Although the offer is appreciated, in the dump file could possibly be information about my company that i dont want to publish to the whole world :)

Hi wpn,

there is nothing in the dumps what would point to avast. From the dumps it looks more as hardware problem. Could you try to run memtest? Or to check the HW config?

thank you
Lukas.
Quality is also a feature.

ill believe you.... for now ;)

There is 8G in the machine.
When there was 4G in the machine, no problems.
After adding 4G there have not been problems while running x32 OS for a couple weeks
There have been no problems for a couple weeks (installed x64 on juli 25), the BSOD started after installing the mentioned drivers from the access system but those are completely removed but the system still experiences BSODs (one even on 13-09 while i was working on the machine :))

I will be happy to run hardware tests once i come back at the office in 3 weeks. Ill put it in my agenda and post the results here from the test.
