Avast freezes system with bitcoin qt

I installed bitcoin qt for mac. Avast prevents this program to sync normally. I have to switch off webshield to make it work otherwise Avast will overload the processor.

I have been having a similar issue,  however there are no "advanced" settings within Avast! that allows you to set it to ignore ports or protocols and it sees bitcoin litecoin and namecoin as a "threat".   Your only option is to disable webshield
