Is Avast for Linux on demand only & not real time & how does one download it, via synaptic?

Hope it isn't a hogger?

Yes, on demand only (not real time).

& how does one download it, via synaptic?
It's not available in the repositories. You need to download it from avast! site.

If your Distro uses Synaptic, just completely Uninstall Avast! from there.

Normally, find Avast! for Linux in Synaptic, right click on it, select Uninstall, hit Apply.
