Updating avast! in offline pc is how much important ???

Hey my friends,
My friend has a pc without an internet connection.I have installed avast!  free antivirus and activated it for 1 year.I provide him the definition update every 20 days.Is it sufficient to protect his offline pc from viruses ?
He plugs many pendrives from his friends. which i think may contain viruses will avast! protect him.
I have set the heuristics for file system high
Will this be enough to protect him

He'll be minimally protected as malware changes by the minute/hour so in turn must your antivirus have regular updates to remain on top but if your friend has no way of connecting to the net then something is better than nothing.
Having regular images/backups will help just in case.

yes....but not against latest infections ...you will be 20 days behind
but i would also install MCShield .......and you can download the update (normal is auto update from the net)

MCShield is found here http://amf.mycity.rs/mcshield/downloads.html     and if you click the red NEW Database updater on leftside to download latest update if you dont have net connection
