Hi, can Avast! Home 4.5 perform heuristic scanning of files? (next to mail)

The heuristic scanning of email is limited, check the heuristic settings in the internet mail provider and avast help file to see what it does.

If by "(next to mail)" you mean is it in other providers, since there is no heuristic sections in the other providers, I would say the answer is no.

So, every virus NOT known by my Avast!AV Home edition will NOT be recognized/catched?!

Not exactly. Such malware is sometimes picked up by quiet strong generic signatures.
Not always,but smetimes. Heuristics will be probably available in avast! 5.x (or eralier but i doubt about that).

A major problem with using heuristics is, there appears to be an increase in the number of false positives. So implimentation of heuristic scanning has to be carefully applied, just my 2p worth.

Well, I've tried using the Lite version of a new p2p program called eXeem lite, and it didn't ring my Avast! AV bells, but it did make my PC malfunction, someone else using AVG got a warning, because of the heuristic scanning, so implementic it might add to the already good AV Avast! Home is :)
