If you are using the regular release version 7.0.1466, and the repair failed - 'Error processing packages. Please use full update.' - then this worked for me:

Then you will need to do a Manual update of VPS - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 67.5 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

Surely that will try and install the program as well?  67.5mb is a whopping big size for just the definitions

On demand - MBAM - Super Antispyware.

For those of you who are are using the regular release version 7.0.1466, and the repair failed - 'Error processing packages. Please use full update.' - then this worked for me on my win7 netbook with 7.0.1466:

Then you will need to do a Manual update of VPS - avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 67.5 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

If you don't want to go through that process, then wait for the avast team to resolve it, which hopefully won't take too long.

COME ON AVAST TIME FOR A FIX

The failed update that caused this was only released less than three hours ago, so lets give them some time to actually identify the cause and resolve it. Or try what I suggested above.

Well, it sure is big, but it fixed the problem. I had removed and reinstalled the program anyways, so my definitions were back at august. Now I'm at version 121003-2.

After that happened, windows says the program might not have ran correctly. Should I be worried? It seemed to have worked for me.

My first visit to the forum.  Am getting "Last Encountered error" :  Invalid file Signature Setup will terminate

I have re-installed, but that didn't help.  I did a restore on my XP computer, and that did nothing. It won't update.

I am wondering if this resolves after a few days or if this remains a block in using AVAST?  I can not update virus protection.

Sometimes it says I am not protected and sometimes it says I am.  I have used this since Feb. and not a snag....until this.   Using Mozilla Firefox for Internet.

virus definitions 1210031
program 701.466

Tried to repair to no avail.

I hope they fix it very soon. I had Avast for more than 2 years and never had a problem until today.
