Sorry I missed all the mayhem here.  System was offline whilst all this was going on, and updated a couple hours after midnight here, and update was fine, to version 121003-1 from version 121003-0.  It is green.

As I said here, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=106625.msg848120#msg848120  This may help to clear up whether Avast! is operating properly or not.  'Invalid signature' would result from an error originating at the avast server, not on your system.

i have version 121003-1, and my avast says it's updated version (not outdated anymore). i tried to manual update ( i was curious), and i got this ( see the attachment). and no 'invalid file signature' anymore

well, i think version 121003-2 was a bad update, so they pulled it back. (but the funny thing is, i never had version -2, but my avast said my previous version was 121003-2).
In that case, Avast restored version -1 onto your system, or reset itself.

Dammit, I had my attention divided, and my full response, although quoting your post in this thread, ended up being posted as a new thread through the magic of a glitched submission, inadvertently, here:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=106630.msg848173#msg848173

So I had to give it a fitting title and all, and let it stand. ::)  Well, I made some general points in it, so hopefully it stands on its own legs (but maybe I should edit it and transfer the part that's my reply to you, and this particular update issue and version numbers discussion, back here, into this post, for what it's worth.

Right, then, here it is, the relevant bit:

@iroc9555:  nah, not an isolated issue, you're not alone -- same thing happened here (and others).

I didn't mean the "I can't update Avast!" deal. I know it is a problem Avast! is working on. I meant if you, or any one, had already 121003-2 and Avast! by itself downloaded the whole VPS, and now is saying it is not updated. You need to repaired Avast! to go back to 121003-1 that it is the correct VPS. There are members who still have VPS 121003-2 shown as correct and without problems.

I realised that, Iroc.  The answer is still yes, though.  To be honest, once I saw there was a problem (and suspecting the latest virus definition package to be at fault), I immediately began to go through the whole song and dance, all the usual procedures, step by step, and separately (instead of wisely and patiently waiting 24 hours or so, as much wiser and level-headed Bioruffo had suggested).

By that, I mean manual online update, followed by full distributable download offline update, followed by repair, followed by normal uninstall and reinstall, followed by another uninstall and full removal via the Avast removal tool and another reinstall, then the same procedure in safe mode, etc.

In the course of all that, I did encountere the problem you referred to, thrice, and using one or more of those procedures, so have others, here and elsewhere (not members of this forum -- till now, neither was I -- and not likely to post, themselves).

So I had 121003-2, and 121003-1 -- right now, I'm back to 121003-1 (still listed as latest as of few minutes ago, last I tested again the update), and staying there, obviously, till the new package, glitch-free hopefully, is ready.

In any case, like I said before, it's not the glitch and possibly bad VPS that rankles with me, but that there was no official word, and still isn't, last I checked.

Once again I tried to to a manual update but it's still stuck on 121003-1.   How much longer is it going to take before this problem is fixed?  If my only option is to uninstall, then reinstall I won't be installing it again.

Just be patient and wait, as and when it is fixed another VPS version will be released to the update servers and the programs auto update function when it checks for updates should find and download it.

A complete Reinstall is a sledge hammer to crack a nut, just wait.

:) Regarding yesterday's problem, the experts at Avast seem to have repaired this.  I'm able to manually download updates today, October 4.  Hooray!!!!

Gblu, where did you find your anime?  It looks something like the ones in Japanese comics.

Just tried again but same old numbers so apparently Avast hasn't completed the necessary repairs.

Any news yet from Avast? I'm still at VPS 121003-1 for 10 hours now, the other Anti-Vir Programms did already update the VPS !!!   >:(

faulty updates have removed from the servers...the New VPS will release probably by next 1 to 2 hours...protection is still the same...just tested against some brand new malware..and still very damn good as it always has been  ;D

Simple solution to fix the update problems will be to go ahead and re-install avast!

I tried a manual update 12 hours ago and several more throughout the day but still stuck on 121003-1.  I''m not about to re-install Avast as I'm sure it would just be a waste of my time.  Isn't their anyone from Avast who actually knows how to fix this?   .1 to 2 hours?  Think not!

Now when I click on posts since my last visit I get a white page and all it says is "Bad Gateway."   What does that mean?

Just now did a manual update and it's showing 121004-0.  Haven't gotten a popup showing that it was updated though.
