True 64-bit?

Hi.  When I install Avast in Windows XP 64-bit is it running as a 64-bit app or is it just compatible with Win 64?  The reason I ask this is because it installs in Program Files (x86) which is for 32-bit apps I think.  This question was probably answered but I am horrible at finding things.

Right, avast! is a 32bit program, but it is aware of the 64bit environment.
