Avast data usage
« on: October 21, 2012, 03:15:04 PM »
Hello,

Avast is using some data, I think because I had the option set to Report the status to my avast account every 60 minutes, which is the default.  Can there be an option to only sync this information if connected to wi-fi?

Thanks

If you're in a rooted phone, you can set the firewall for only wifi for avast! Mobile Security.

Hi,

actually sounds like a good idea, I think we will do that.

I also noticed that unchecking "Report status to my avast account" does not hold...I go back to the menu and it is checked again.  I had to disconnect from my account in order to stop the data transfer.

Hi jbrian00,

Thanks for the report, there's in fact a bug that causes that the status reporting can't be disabled.

Also, could you tell how many data has been transferred by us? Because I have the reporting enabled on my phone (each 60 minutes) and it consumes less than 1MB a month, and that's together with virus definitions updates. It isn't so bad I think.

The data is about what you say...not a lot but I have a low data plan so I try to squeeze every MB out of it.  I think as long as I can tell it to not report so it will not use data to do that, I should be fine.

Well, I think the database updates take most of that. The account reporting should be something like 5-10% of the total amount.

Fortunately for automatic updates I can set it for Wi-Fi only.
